Tardy Policy Update

Tardies have continued to be an extreme issue (we recently had 27 in one day), so we have decided to change the procedure. Keep in mind that not only is it very disruptive if a student comes in late, it is also detrimental for that student who has now missed morning prayer and instructions for the day. Please read and keep this for your records, as this will be the policy going forward.

Upon return from April vacation, we will return to a more strict tardy policy, much like we had pre-Covid. That means anyone arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be considered tardy. The drop-off window is 7:45 to 8:00 a.m. Each child will receive one excused tardy for the month. This is for traffic, car issues, waking up late, etc. After that, every tardy needs to have a doctor's note to be excused. This covers all appointments, chronic illness, etc. After the "free" one for the month, the consequences will be according to the following:

Per month:

  • 1st Tardy: Free
  • 2nd Tardy: 15-minute detention
  • 3rd Tardy: 20-minute detention
  • 4th Tardy: 30-minute detention
  • 5th or more: One-hour detention

On the first of the month, we will begin a new count.

Any student that is tardy more than 25 times in a year (without a doctor's note) will have a one-hour detention each time they are tardy.

New Principal

At the beginning of Lent we began our search for the next principal of Holy Name School, and as we near the end of this season, I am happy to announce that we have signed a letter of intent with our new principal who will begin on July 1.

Mrs. Megan dos Santos is currently the vice principal of academic affairs at Bishop Connolly High School. During her time there, she served as the curriculum coordinator, implemented a data driven instruction initiative using MAP testing, and worked to create a program to support students with IEPs and other learning needs. She also led the Christian service program helping to better engage students in the community by putting their faith into action.

During the search process Mrs. dos Santos visited our school, met with our teachers, and also interviewed before a Principal Search Committee composed of current and former parents, teachers, and parishioners. After assessing the different candidates for the position, we were unanimous in our consensus that Mrs. dos Santos is the best candidate for the position given her skills, experience, and connection to the local community. I am confident that she will bring the leadership our school needs to further develop the quality of our academic program and community life, integrated and enlivened by our faith in Jesus Christ.

For the rest of the year Mr. Mancuso and I will continue to share the responsibilities of principal. I am very grateful for his assistance. Mrs. dos Santos will be present from time to time as well as she gets to know the Holy Name community.

Please read our letters below for more information on your new principal.
