Message from Mr. Flanagan

I hope that you are well and staying close to home as we continue to weather this health crisis.

On Monday, March 16, 2020, I will be sending out a detailed memo concerning more plans for distance learning for our students. If your students were not in school (grades K-5) their packets will be available at school Monday, March 16 between 10:00 a.m. and noon.

For middle school students who were not in school on Friday and need books, please also arrange to pick them up between 10:00 a.m. and noon on Monday, March 16. We will have extremely limited access to the building and will allow people in one at a time to go to the classrooms to avoid unnecessary exposure to one another.

I also just heard that the governor announced that all schools will be closed until April 7. I will send more updated info as I receive it.

Thank you for your cooperation.

God Bless,

David J. Flanagan
Principal

All Diocese of Fall River Catholic Schools To Close

Please keep everyone in your prayers as we navigate these uncharted waters.

Parent/Guardian Feedback Survey

Dear Holy Name Families,

The Advisory Committee is asking for feedback from all parents and guardians regarding your feelings/experiences at Holy Name School. Please view and fill out our Parent Experience SurveyMonkey. The survey is anonymous and there are ten short-answer/multiple-choice questions. Your participation is important. We want to see what’s currently working well, and what we need to improve. The results of the survey will give valuable insight on how we can make our school even more successful. We ask that you complete the survey by Friday, March 20, 2020. For more information, please see our parent guardian survey letter. If you prefer not to answer online, we sent a paper copy home. You may also view and print the paper version of the parent experience survey from this news article. Please return the survey to the office in a sealed envelope addressed to the Advisory Committee. Thank you in advance!

Wardell Scholarship Application

The Dr. Patricia M. Wardell Scholarship was established in 2019. Dr. Wardell worked over 50 years in the field of education, serving the last 14 years of her career as Principal of Holy Name School. During this time, she was constantly devoted to ensuring the school was centered on Jesus Christ and the students attained academic excellence rooted in Catholic values, with a commitment to helping others.

In her honor, the Dr. Patricia M. Wardell Scholarship is awarded each year to a rising middle school student, to be applied to tuition for the forthcoming school year. Applicants will submit a brief essay on “How has Holy Name School helped with your faith and how do you show your faith by helping others?” A committee will conduct a blind-review of essays to determine the recipient.

For more information on requirements, the amount received, and the deadline, please view the Wardell scholarship application flyer.

Holy Name School Fund

We reach out in regards to the  5th Annual Holy Name School Fund Appeal, which supports the operation of our Parish School. Your donation to the fund will enhance our academic program as well as the arts, athletics, extra-curricular activities, and facilities. Specifically, in 2020, our goals are to replace our whiteboards in several classrooms; supplement our reading, science, and fine arts curriculum; purchase outdoor equipment, and continue to update our safety and technology.

We realize inviting you to support The Holy Name School Fund means asking you to make a sacrifice. Today there are many "good causes" which seek our help. We ask that you donate during the upcoming season of Lent, aware that sacrifices help us to strengthen our relationship with God, whose Son sacrificed everything for each of us.

For more information on supporting The Holy Name School Fund, please see the Holy Name School Fund flyer.

Dr. Wardell Prayer Card

On February 11 we sent home a prayer card for Dr. Wardell to all families. We realize that not everyone had the opportunity to get one and we wanted to be sure that everyone has one. She was a fantastic leader for our school and role model for our students. Please feel free to send in a donation to the scholarship fund we set up in Dr. Wardell’s memory. There is no better way to honor her legacy than to donate to the fund that will help less fortunate children enjoy our school. Please make checks payable to the Dr. Wardell Scholarship Fund. You may also view and print off the prayer card by viewing this flyer.

New School Policies

Fifth through eighth-grade students, Mr. Flanagan has kindly agreed to authorize a couple of changes in the school protocol.

First, is a modification to the phone rule. Students are now allowed to use their phones when they get to school, however, all phones need to be in the office by the time morning prayer begins. Students may use their phones again after the school day has ended, except for those going to homework club. Secondly, students in grades fifth through eighth are now allowed to wear nail polish.

These generous changes made by Mr. Flanagan go into effect on February 5. Please see the new student policies flyer for additional information.

Attention Middle Schoolers

Mr. Flanagan is allowing all middle school students to use a regular backpack to carry books and learning materials between classes. Please note, rolling bags and drawstring bags are not allowed. Please see our backpack flyer. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

FACE Scholarship Applications

The Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE) raises money for scholarships to assist with the costs of Catholic education. FACE uses the FACTS system to determine financial need so that each situation can be fairly assessed for a scholarship opportunity. We work very closely with every Catholic school in the Diocese of Fall River to help make a Catholic education a reality. For more information, on application eligibility, as well as how to apply, please view the FACE scholarship flyer.
